XcooBee creates tool for parents to teach online privacy and safety to young children.
XcooBee, the Privacy Network, announced today the release of its online privacy teaching book for parents and children, Buzzy’s Adventures in Online Privacy.
XcooBee was formed with the mission to protect the digital rights and privacy of consumers and businesses alike. The XcooBee team challenged itself to look beyond software and use the expertise in data privacy and education for positive change.
Bilal Soylu, XcooBee founder and Chief Worker Bee explains: “Our team found a need with young children and their parents. Since children spent many hours in front of digital screens, they are exposed to an online onslaught of digital impressions and are rarely psychologically prepared for it. This gave us the incentive to create a different tool to help educate adults and children alike about online privacy. And Buzzy was born.”
Soylu continues, “In today’s rapidly changing world, children are being exposed to digital devices at younger and younger ages. Now nicknamed Digital Natives, our children have never lived in a world without screens. Without guidance, however, they are left to interpret what they don’t understand and fend for themselves in the increasingly complex arena that wasn’t created with them in mind.”
In this first book of its kind, Buzzy’s Adventures in Online Privacy, kindergartener Buzzy the Bee runs into unforeseen trouble while having fun on the internet. Through the tales of him and his friends, young children and early fluent readers learn about online privacy and the possible dangers in communication with others on the internet. It also teaches them about interacting with many kinds of smart devices, as these are becoming more commonplace in our homes. At the same time, this book informs parents and educators on the latest topics in children’s privacy, as well as, how to open up a dialogue with children about these subjects. It gives adults the tools they need to navigate issues and teach young children about safer and healthier engagement with this the new digital world.
Buzzy’s Adventures in Online Privacy is available in several formats including softcover, hardcover, and as kindle eBook. The eBook version is split into two separate publications, one for children with illustrations, and another as companion guide for adults with background information and engagement questions.
